Head of Finance

Seeking a proactive Head of Finance to lead the finance function of a growing engineering business near Stansted. Reporting directly to senior management, you will take ownership of financial activities, ensure compliance, and provide clear, accurate reporting to support decision-making.
You will manage one team member and will drive process improvement in a dynamic SME environment.

Role: Head of Finance
Location: Near Stansted, Essex
Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 per annum (DOE)
Hours: Week 1: Mon-Thurs 07:30-17:00, Fri 07:30-13:30
Week 2: Mon-Thurs only, 07:30-17:00
Average of 39 hours per week

Main Responsibilities:

• Prepare and present management accounts, budgets, forecasts, and cash flow reporting.
• Oversee sales and purchase ledger, invoices, and statements.
• Perform bank reconciliations and maintain financial controls.
• Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including VAT, PAYE, and HMRC reporting.
• Manage relationships with auditors, banks, and external advisors.
• Drive efficiency improvements in systems and processes.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

• Proven experience in a finance leadership role, ideally within an SME or engineering environment.
• Proficient in Sage 200
• Knowledge of Aerotrac software would be advantageous.
• Strong background in management accounts, cash flow, and forecasting.
• Hands-on, detail-oriented, and confident in leading a small team.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to present financial information clearly.
