We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer (Obsolescence & Lifecycle Support) to support a critical engineering programme focused on extending the lifecycle of a legacy UK MOD system. This is a hands-on, technically varied role combining mechanical engineering, documentation, and project coordination.

You will play a key role in an engineering project aimed at removing obsolescence and updating technical documentation for a high-pressure inert gas supply system originally designed in the 1980s.
The system includes gas storage, valves, safety devices, gauges, and pipe assemblies housed within a transportable chassis. Your work will directly support future repair and overhaul activities, ensuring continued compliance and operational reliability.

** Please note that SC Clearance (or eligibility to obtain clearance) is essential.

Main Responsibilities

  • Conduct strip-down and survey investigations, documenting and photographing existing assemblies and test configurations
  • Develop assembly and test procedures
  • Produce maintenance and overhaul documentation, including repair procedures and spares planning
  • Lead obsolescence management activities, including:
    • Materials and processes review
    • Standard mechanical parts updates
    • Seals and consumables replacement
  • Assess product compliance implications of design changes and define required qualification/testing
  • Update FMECA and supporting engineering documentation
  • Provide project oversight, including:
    • Acting as the main customer interface
    • Maintaining project plans and progress updates
  • Support preparation of cost estimates and proposals for future phases

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience in a mechanical or project engineering role within aerospace, defence, or complex engineering environments
  • Strong background in engineering documentation and technical authorship
  • Experience with legacy systems, obsolescence management, or life-extension programmes
  • Understanding of compliance, qualification, and testing requirements
  • Ability to manage stakeholders and provide customer-facing project updates
  • SC Clearance (or eligibility to obtain clearance) is essential

Working Pattern

  • Hybrid working: 3-4 days on-site in Redditch
  • Monday-Thursday: 08:00 – 17:00 and Friday: 08:00 – 12:00

Vetting will include SC clearance (5 years+ UK residence is essential), a right to work check, drug screen, 5 years’ referencing and a DBS check.
